Summary
The Women’s Learning Partnership and the UNFPA’s Asia and the Pacific Regional Office (APRO) held a series of conversations on themes related to human rights, such as religion, human security, family law, and climate justice. Experts and scholars contributed to these conversations, sharing their knowledge and expertise to guide us towards an understanding of the relationship between these themes and the exercise of gender equality and reproductive health and rights. The first conversation, titled, "Religion, Human Rights, and Gender Equality” was held in November 2022, featuring Wendy Goldberg, Executive Director of the Tri-Faith Initiative in Omaha; Francis Kissling, President of the Center for Health, Ethics and Social Policy; Rangita de Silva de Alwis, Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania; and Karma Lekshe Tsomo, Professor of Buddhist Studies at the University of San Diego. The dialogue explores adopting an interfaith perspective to underscore the common elements found in the world's major religious traditions which are consistent with a discourse based on human rights.
