Advocacy

From Local Realities to Collective Influence.

At WLP, advocacy grows from lived experience and collective action. Rather than advancing pre-set agendas, WLP’s partnership of women-led organizations builds advocacy rooted in community realities and strengthened through cross-border solidarity.

Our advocacy helps feminist movements shift laws, norms, and public discourse — ensuring women’s voices shape decisions that affect their lives.

Locally Rooted

WLP’s advocacy begins in  communities, where women identify the barriers they face — from discriminatory laws and economic exclusion to social norms and political repression.

Partners mobilize locally led campaigns grounded in feminist analysis, lived experience, and collective leadership. These efforts ensure advocacy is accountable to communities and responsive to changing contexts.

How We Create Impact

Collectively Strengthened

Local advocacy becomes more powerful when movements learn and act together. Through shared analysis, convenings, and collaborative networks, WLP helps women-led organizations align strategy, exchange tactics, and build collective power across regions. This approach allows insights from one context to inform advocacy elsewhere, transforming local struggles into shared movement priorities.

Globally Amplified

WLP connects women activists to regional and international platforms where policies, norms, and agendas are shaped. By linking grassroots leadership to global forums, advocacy spaces, and campaigns, WLP ensures that global debates are informed by those most affected. This cross-level advocacy enables feminist movements to influence decision-makers, challenge dominant narratives, and advance gender justice at scale.

Advocacy in Action

WLP’s advocacy spans issues including legal reform, climate justice, women’s political participation, violence against women, and shrinking civic space, always grounded in collective leadership and long-term movement goals. Through this approach, advocacy becomes not a moment, but a sustained process that builds power, legitimacy, and resilience over time.

See the Difference

Here are just a few of the advocacy victories spearheaded by WLP partners:

  • Brazil: Introduced the crime of femicide into the penal code;
  • Jordan: Removed a law from the penal code that allowed rapists to escape punishment by marrying their victim;
  • Lebanon: Improved the legal status of non-Lebanese spouses and children of Lebanese women;
  • Malaysia: Passed Anti-Sexual Harassment Law, providing legal protection for women in workplaces and public spaces.;
  • Morocco: Halted the passage of a bill to permit child marriage, and reversing reservations to CEDAW in Morocco.
