WLP and The Global Women’s Institute at George Washington University present activist and legal scholar Karima Bennoune, author of Your Fatwa Does Not Apply Here: Untold Stories from the Fight against Muslim Fundamentalism, as she discusses her powerful new book detailing the impact of extremist religious ideology on the lives and agency of women and girls, and the growing power and influence of fundamentalists in the Muslim world in the past decade.

Karima Bennoune will be joined by a panel of leading women’s rights activists and academics, drawing upon years of experience countering religious extremism and working with women and men on the ground in their efforts to advance freedom, gender equality, and human rights against the rising tide of fundamentalism around the globe. Panelists include Mahnaz Afkhami, former Minister of Women’s Affairs in Iran and founder and president of Women’s Learning PartnershipFrances Kissling, scholar, activist, and former president of Catholics for Choice; and Bonnie Morris, women's studies professor, historian, and author of Lubavitcher Women in America in a thought-provoking discussion moderated by Mary Ellsberg, Founding Director of The Global Women’s Institute at GWU.
