UPDATE ON WLP AT CSW64 (3/4/2020). Due to concerns about the coronavirus (COVID-19), all side and parallel events around the 64th Commission on the Status of Women have been cancelled, including WLP’s event on March 13th “Beyond Beijing: Local Strategies and International Advocacy.” In order to adapt to these changing circumstances, we will reschedule some of our planned events as online discussions and postpone others to a later date. 

Participants in the Fourth World Conference on Women came together for ten extraordinary days in September 1995 to challenge and transform patriarchal structures and discriminatory policies through the empowerment of women. WLP, founded in 2000, adapts the global lessons from Beijing to local contexts through an active and collaborative partnership of organizations in the global south. Over the last two decades, the WLP partnership has discovered new and holistic approaches to climate justice, human rights, family law reform, and women’s empowerment through participatory leadership.

Join renowned human rights activists from across sectors as they reflect on the achievements of the past and explore strategies for the future. A panel discussion will follow the screening of WLP’s new documentary on the interconnected threats to human security and the search for sustainable solutions.

We Are All Afghanistan

On October 15, 2021, WLP hosted a discussion with Former Minister for Women’s Affairs in Afghanistan Sima Samar and Former Governor of Bamyan Province Habiba Sarabi, moderated by Former UNFPA Executive Director Thoraya Obaid and WLP Founder and President Mahnaz Afkhami. The discussion focused on their experiences as women leaders and human rights advocates in Afghanistan and what can be done to support women and girls.

Gender, Families, and Climate Justice

Climate justice needs women’s voices, experience, and leadership. Women’s Learning Partnership is bringing together thought-leaders on climate justice and women’s rights to discuss the role of women and youth in confronting the climate crisis. Women have suffered the greatest from natural disasters, loss of arable land, and forced migration, and have been on the forefront of working towards sustainable solutions. Join us for a lively and thought-provoking discussion and poetry reading about the nexus between the fight for climate justice and addressing political, social, and economic inequalities.
