Summary

Mahnaz Afkhami, founder of Women's Learning Partnership, discusses her personal and professional biography, including her work as an Iranian government minister and her later, continuing involvement in the global women's movement. Afkhami begins by discussing the work of her predecessor Farokhroo Pārsā, (1922-1980), the first female cabinet minister of an Iranian government. She speaks about her work on women's issues in the Middle East, and internationally. She also discusses her family and early influences, including her grandmother. 

The Association of University Women in Iran, which Afkhami founded in 1969, was an entry point to the women's movement in Iran and planted the seeds of ideas that would later lead to Women's Learning Partnership, such as the importance of learning from each other and enabling cultural change to happen in an organic, dialogical process.
