Summary

Author Sebastian Junger and photographer Reza Deghati travel through war-torn, Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. National Geographic Explorer follows these two journalists on their search for Ahmed Shah Massoud, the resistance leader known as "The Lion of Panjshir." To many, he is considered one of the most formidable guerilla leaders of modern times, known for being largely responsible for repelling the Soviets in the 1980s. To reach him, Junger and Reza must trek to Massoud's front lines deep in the Hindu Kush Mountains, a treacherous place in the best of times, a death trap in war.
