About the Interviewee* 

Asma Khader (Jordan) is the foremost human rights lawyer in Jordan today and recently served as one of three official investigators on behalf of the UN Human Rights Council’s inquiry into human rights abuses in Libya. In October 2013 she was appointed to the Senate and in May 2014 was elected deputy chief commissioner by the Independent Elections Commission in Jordan. She served as the Secretary General of the Jordanian National Commission for Women for a number of years. Previously, Khader was the Minister of Culture for the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and President of the Jordanian Women’s Union. She is a leading expert on honor killings, and is the coordinator for the National Committee for implementation of UNSCR 1325. She is a member of the Arab Organization for Human Rights and the Advisory Committee of the Women’s Division of Human Rights Watch.
