A documentary from American journalist Carl Rowan (1925-2000) about rising political tensions in Iran released in 1978, one year before the revolution. Opens with a background history of the Iranian Revolution, including interviews with a student dissent the head of SAVAK, and Mohommad Reza Shah Pahlavi, who was still the king at the time of the interview.
[24:00 - 30:00] (approx.) Discussion of women's status, role in Iranian society, and the changes instituted under the Reza Shah's rule.
At the [27:00] mark there is an interview with Women's Learning Partnership founder Mahnaz Afkhami, who right up until the interview had been Minister of Women's Affairs and a member of the Iranian cabinet, before that position was abolished in an apparent attempt to appease rising fundamentalist anger.
The rest of the documentary is an account of the political events leading up to the Iranian revolution.
