Summary

The 1994 United Nations International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo marked a significant milestone in establishing a shared global commitment to sustainable development with equity for all. It emphasized human rights and dignity, access to family planning, sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality, equal education for girls, and the elimination of violence against women, among other priorities.

This CEPIA publication stems from the Cairo in Everyday Life course (Communication in Defense of Women's Human Rights) held online in 2023 with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The course aimed to deepen and connect women's understanding of the Cairo Plan of Action, particularly regarding sexual and reproductive rights (SRRs), linking these principles to their lived experiences. It also encouraged the development of new narratives to advance the social decriminalization of abortion within their communities and in dialogue with the State.
