Beijing Platform for Action

As we commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, we find ourselves at a crossroads.

I arrived in Beijing in 1995 as part of a small international group of women called HERA, organized by the International Women’s Health Coalition, IWHC. We were all quite experienced in doing advocacy in the UN arena, from Prep Coms to Conferences themselves.

The Beijing Platform for Action was a landmark document that emphasized gender equality as the foundation of a democratic society.
