Summary

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was drafted in 1992 and signed by 154 states. The UNFCCC established an international environmental treaty to combat human-induced climate change through ongoing research and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Thee treaty was signed at the 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, which was informally known as the Earth Summit.
