Summary
Equality between men and women in popular culture is an essential consideration for audiences around the world, particularly in Europe and North America. In the MENA region, the space given to this topic remains limited. Through this study on Jordan and Morocco, the Democratic Association of Moroccan Women (ADFM) aims to bring the issue of gender equality in film to the forefront of public discussions. This study was done to accompany the Morocco National Report on Gender Equality.
This study consists of three parts:
- PART 1: The first part presents an analytical reading of legal and regulatory texts governing the cinema sector in Jordan and Morocco. The authors identify direct or indirect discrimination in legal instruments as well as obstacles to a culture of equality.
- PART 2: The second is a statistical analysis of the presence of women and men in the film industry in Jordan and Morocco in its various segments and trades.
- PART 3: The third part addresses recommendations for the film industry to improve gender equality.
