Women's Learning Partnership (WLP) is a partnership of 20 autonomous organizations based in the Global South that trains and supports women leaders and advocates for a just, peaceful world. WLP creates contextually-specific curricula and training programs on leadership, human rights, and democratic participation. The Partnership conducts research-based advocacy campaigns to reform laws and practices that impede women’s full participation in their communities and societies. WLP’s programs and training materials, published in more than twenty languages, reach thousands of women in over 60 countries, empowering them to advocate for their rights, and strengthening local organizations to advance women’s movements across the globe.
Job Description
The Senior Program Associate position is based at the WLP office in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. The position will support two key areas of WLP’s work: (1) coordinating WLP’s advocacy and communications and (2) as a partner liaison, providing communications, program coordination, and evaluation support to WLP partner organizations.
Communications and Advocacy: In consultation with the Co-Executive Directors, develop and implement an integrated, organization-wide communications and advocacy plan to broaden awareness of our work and brand identity in alignment with the organization’s strategy. Responsibilities include:
- Working with WLP staff to recognize internal and external communications opportunities, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support our overall mission.
- Following relevant developments in women’s rights, identify important issues, and share with internal staff where appropriate.
- Developing external communications copy to ensure its alignment with the strategic communications plan, including: newsletters, annual reports, external emails, all social media platforms, press releases and media outreach, and videos and multimedia content. Produce web articles and blogs based on program results from the field, and from interviews conducted with global partners.
- Planning and implementing a social media calendar with daily content and specific campaigns on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, as well as other platforms including YouTube and LinkedIn as appropriate.
- Regularly reviewing reports on WLP communications and social media performance and using the data to make strategy recommendations to optimize content and increase audience engagement
- Staying up to date with latest social media and digital best practices and digital marketing trends, capturing and sharing learning
- With the Executive Directors, coordinating WLP’s engagement with international institutions and participation in global advocacy coalitions on issues including family law reform, climate justice, and ending gender-based violence.
- With the Executive Directors, coordinating events including in-person advocacy events, zoom webinars, and partners convenings.
- Other duties as assigned
Partner Liaison:
- Liaising with select WLP partner organizations and assisting with coordinating the implementation and evaluation of WLP trainings, curriculum development, advocacy, and capacity building programs. Liaising with other WLP program associates to coordinate activities across program areas.
- Contributing to grant proposals and reports to funders, board, and partners
Qualifications:
- Commitment and dedication to women's empowerment.
- Minimum 5 years with graduate degree in a related field or 8 years experience with an undergraduate degree, preferably with at least 2 years in the non-profit sector.
- Excellent writing skills
- Ability to communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency with standard professional software for word processing, database management, video conferencing, etc.
- Experience in using a variety of social media platforms for organizing or advocacy.
- Familiarity with CRM database management
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
Preferred Skills:
- Working proficiency in French, Russian, Portuguese, and/or Arabic is desirable.
- Familiarity with the politics, history, and cultures in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and/or the Middle East.
- Experience living, working, or volunteering internationally.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other design platforms.
