The UN Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Intolerance and of Discrimination Based on Religion or Belief was passed on November 25th, 1981. This resolution underscores that "freedom of thought, conscience, and religion" is a human right, which was first outlined in article 18 of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights.

The United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 1889 on women, peace and security on October 5, 2009. Resolution 1889 established indicators for the monitoring of resolution 1325 and requests the Secretary-General to submit a report on women's participation and inclusion in peacebuilding. The resolution focuses on post-conflict peacebuilding and on women's participation in all stages of the peace process.

The United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 1960 on women, peace and security on December 16, 2010. The resolution established a monitoring and reporting mechanism on sexual violence in conflict.
