Voice of America's Zan-e Emrooz (Today's Woman) and Mahnaz Afkahmi focus on the role of women and women's leadership in shaping global security and in promoting a human security paradigm focused on peace, conflict resolution, and protection of rights rather than military control.

Mahnaz Afkhami, President and founder of Women's Learning Partnership (WLP), discusses the recent International Women Leaders Global Security Summit (IWLGSS) held November 15-17, 2007 (New York City), which aimed to bring perspectives and voices of global women leaders to the international discourse on security. The summit was sponsored by the Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands, in partnership with The White House Project, the Council of Women World Leaders, and the Women Leaders Intercultural Forum of Realizing Rights: The Ethical Globalization Initiative.
 
All of these forums represented areas where women could come together as leaders and as women, without falling into masculine or feminine stereotypes. Afkhami notes that the participants displayed very natural relationship to power, and embodied a new concept of inclusive leadership that is a helpful model for both women and men.
