Following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 in the US, and in order to bring women's perspectives into the discussion of this horrendous event and its consequences, women leaders from across the world join in an electronic colloquium:

  • to express their sympathy for the victims
  • to discuss the effect of the tragedy on the future of world peace, inter-communal justice, and human rights
  • to assess various possible military, economic, and developmental responses governments may undertake and their impact on civil society
  • to explore ways of mobilizing individuals and NGOs to build global solidarity for the rule of law, tolerance, and peaceful resolution of conflicts across regions and faiths

In addition to WLP representatives, the following individuals contribute:

DEVAKI JAIN (India), a Founding Member of Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era (DAWN), is a development economist and women’s rights and democracy activist.

JOANNA KERR (Canada) is Executive Director of the Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) and former Senior Researcher at The North-South Institute.
