From November 25 to December 10, 2020, Women's Learning Partnership (WLP) is participating in the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign to build awareness of and end violence against women and girls. This year WLP’s Partnership-wide digital campaign for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence amplifies the voices of survivors of GBV from across our partner communities and the voices of activists working to end GBV. In addition to a Partnership-wide awareness campaign, WLP partners will implement education campaigns, demonstrations, and workshops. Through these activities, grassroots women and men will develop strategies for achieving safe and egalitarian societies for every woman and girl.
WLP Partner Activities and Events:
WLP International
- This year WLP’s Partnership-wide digital campaign for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence amplifies the voices of survivors of GBV from across our partner communities and the voices of activists working to end GBV. Visit our blog post every day to read new stories about the women and men working to end this shadow pandemic during COVID-19 – now and forever. You will also find strategies used by our partners around the world who lead efforts to end GBV at the national, regional, and international levels.
WLP Brazil - CEPIA
- December 8: CEPIA will launch a virtual platform aiming to combat violence against women. The platform will be launched as part of a project with UNFPA Brasil, Canada Embassy and The Netherlands Embassy; a multilateral response to GBV during COVID-19 in Brazil.
- November 25-December 10: CEPIA will be sharing a series of messages calling for an end to GBV that were produced by participants of a WLP training on women's political participation
WLP Egypt - FWID
- November 30: Executive Director of FWID, Enas El Shafie was invited to speak in a seminar of the International Media college celebration during the 16 Days of Activism against GBV. The symposium aimed to raise awareness about violence against women in the media
WLP Indonesia - WYDII
- November 25 – December 10: WYDII will post contents on gender-based violence campaign on social media activity and outreach relating to 16 Days themes
- November 25-26: WYDII will conduct a two-day webinar training on human rights for LGBTQ community.
WLP Jordan - SIGI/J
- November 25: SIGI-J will host a webinar launching ceremony of the 16 Days Campaign. In this digital event SIGI-J will launch the Fatima network, established by SIGI-J, which is a Jordanian civil network that will support and protect of women and girls from gender-based violence in emergencies and crises. They will also launch the AMAN digital clinic, which is a specialized platform for providing support services such as listening, counseling, protection and urgent interventions to women and girls victims of human rights violations in general, with a specific focus on issues related to addressing different forms of gender-based violence.
- November 26-28: SIGI-J will conduct a youth and technology conference on combating violence against women and girls.
- November 25, November 29, and December 7: SIGI-J will conduct three awareness-raising sessions on the rights of older women and their protection from violence and discrimination
- December 4: SIGI-J will share orange online materials with supportive messages and figures on combating all forms of GBV & SGBV to participate in the ORANGE HOUR initiative.
- November 25 – December 10: SIGI-J will issue press releases on topics related to COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts on women and girls.
- November 25 – December 10: SIGI-J will develop 3 positions papers on access to justice for women during crises, urgent interventions in regards to women and girls protection and digital empowerment for women.
- November 25 – December 10: SIGI-J will broadcast 16 radio episodes containing reports of various forms of GBV & SGBV throughout the campaign.
- November 25 – December 10: SIGI-J will broadcast a 7-min video on violence against women and girls with a focus on domestic and economic violence.
- November 25 – December 10: SIGI-J will broadcast 10 short sketches of "Haret Al-Taybeen" on the issue of combating various forms of GBV & SGBV during the 16 Days campaign period.
- November 25 – December 10: SIGI-J will conduct three online awareness-raising sessions on the safe use of the internet targeting women and girls from different governorates
- November 25 – December 10: SIGI-J will share short SMS with mobile phone subscribers that include quotes on the importance of women's economic participation and combating GBV.
- November 25 – December 10: SIGI-J will broadcast audio and video recording, and participate on live interviews through radio and TV channels discussing the importance of collective efforts on combating different forms of GBV & SGBV.
- DATE TBD: SIGI-J will conduct a specialized round-table discussion on violence against women and girls.
- DATE TBD: SIGI-J will implement a two-day advocacy workshop on the mechanisms of providing support and assistance to women and girls release from shelters and rehabilitation centers.
WLP Kazakhstan- SWRC
- Social media activity and outreach relating to 16 Days themes.
WLP Kyrgyzstan- Bir Duino
- December 5: Bir Duino will partner with the office of the Ombudsman in Kyrgyzstan to hold a quiz night on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day. The quiz will be around the framework of Bir Duino's 14th International Film Festival. Participants will include High School and University students, volunteers and representatives from NGOs and representatives from various ministries in Kyrgyzstan.
WLP Malaysia – AWAM
- November 27: AWAM will host a virtual conference to fundraise for our Sexual Harassment Awareness, Redress and Prevention (SHARP) Programme.
- AWAM will participate in a social media campaign between November 25 and December 10
WLP Mauritania – AFCF
- AFCF will conduct an awareness-raising campaign in all their branches to denounce the upsurge in violence against women and girls
WLP Morocco – ADFM
- Social media activity and outreach relating to 16 Days themes.
WLP Mozambique – Forum Mulher
- DATE TBD: Forum Mulher will host an online conference on GBV with members of Parliament to also highlight the crisis happening in northern Mozambique, Capo Delgado.
WLP Nigeria – CEADER
- November 27: CEADER will conduct a leadership sensitization at one of the secondary schools in their community
- December 2: Executive Director of CEADER, Joy Ngwakwe was invited by Women Radio in Nigeria to give a discussion on 16 Days of Activism against GBV
- November 25 – December 10: CEADER will carry out social media activism including sharing banners that demand an end to various forms of violence against women and girls
WLP Pakistan – Aurat Foundation
- Social media activity and outreach relating to 16 Days themes.
WLP Senegal – GIPS/WAR
- December 8: GIPS/WAR will host a panel event with government officials to discuss the law that was passed in January 2020 criminalizing rape and pedophilia. The goal of the event is to raise awareness about the details of the law and how it will contribute to the fight against GBV.
- December 10: GIPS/WAR will host an event to specifically draw attention to the vulnerability of women and girls from rural areas to GBV. During the event, survivors of GBV will share their stories to help raise awareness about the urgency of this problem.
WLP Turkey – FSWW
- Social media activity and outreach relating to 16 Days themes.
WLP Zimbabwe – WSPM
- DATE TBD: WSPM will hold awareness raising, educational and advocacy campaigns to stop early marriages and domestic violence in rural and urban areas in Zimbabwe, Zambia and the DRC
