16 Days GBV Banner 2016

From November 25 to December 10, 2016, WLP partners from all over the globe will organize and participate in workshops, film screenings, and events during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. The 16 Days of Activism against GBV is an annual international advocacy campaign coordinated by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership at Rutgers University, targeting young, social-media savvy audiences.

Since its inception in 1991, more than 5,000 organizations from over 180 countries have participated in the annual campaign. This year's theme, From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Make Education Safe for All, highlights violence as a barrier to women's and girls' education.

WLP’s partners take advantage of the global media attention and dialogue sparked by the campaign to further the our women’s rights advocacy priorities, often with a particular focus on young people. Highlights of our activities during the 2016 campaign include the following:

  • December 5 - Hosting a Twitter "teach-in" on ending global gender-based violence

  • November 23 - Hosting "Zika Virus and Women's Reproductive Rights" Seminar
  • November 28 - CEPIA attendance at "Fundamentalism, Sexuality, and Human Rights: Boundaries in Dispute" Seminar
  • November 28 - Screening of WLP documentary From Fear to Freedom: Ending Violence Again Women
  • November 29 - Conducting workshop on violence against women for low-income youth community

  • December 10 - Organizing artistic activities led by young artists to denounce gender-based violence
  • December 22 - Exhibiting a symbolic court trial to highlight unsatisfactory GBV laws
