Summary
As democracy takes root throughout sub-Saharan Africa, countries face challenges to implementing full political participation among all groups. Citizens' right to vote, right to form loyal opposition, and role in forming strong political and economic institutions are essential to growing democracy. As many groups remain excluded from democracy-building processes, this program poses the question, How do those who are excluded work to effect change?
Host Maimouna Mills is joined by Ambassador Gwendoline Konie, founder and president of the Social Democratic Party of Zambia; Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Liberian Opposition Leader of the Unity Party of Liberia; and Alassane Ouatarra, Former Prime Minister of Cote d'Ivoire.
