The year 2015 marks the 40th anniversary of the First World Conference on Women (FWCW) held in Mexico City in 1975, and the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA), an international treaty articulated at the Fourth FWCW, Beijing, 1995. Governments of Pakistan and Lebanon have ratified the Declaration made at the Beijing Conference, committing both politically and legally to promote, protect, and fulfill the rights of women, as enunciated under twelve thematic areas in the Declaration.

The proposed session is a parallel event to the 59th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and will focus on Pakistan's and Lebanon’s compliance and current status and provide updates in areas of Women & Poverty, Education and Training of Women, Violence Against Women, and Political & Public Life. Speakers at the event will share details concerning VAW, and government action and progress towards fulfillment of international commitments.
