Pakistan 2016 NTOT

WLP’s partner in Pakistan, Aurat Foundation, organized a six-day Training of Trainers (TOT) in the city of Nathia Gali in June 2016. This training was unique in the diversity of its 22 participants, who represented a wide range of religious minorities, women working in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) of Pakistan, and individuals working for grassroots and national institutions such as the National Commission on Status of Women (NCSW).

WLP Training of Trainers (TOT)

Aurat Foundation laid out four main objectives of this national workshop: to reflect on discriminatory practices and the perpetuation of inequalities; to develop a common understanding on gender and women’s rights;  to articulate a vision on democracy and citizenship; and to develop facilitation skills. WLP manuals Beyond Equality, Leading to a Culture of Democracy, and Victories Over Violence were among the training materials used to facilitate the sessions.

The participants developed six training and advocacy projects that they will implement with the guidance of Aurat Foundation. One group plans to replicate a training on democracy and violence against women in 12 districts in Pakistan in three different languages (Urdu, Punjabi, and Pashto). The trainings, which aim to raise awareness about pro-women legislation and strengthen leadership skills, will focus on youth.

We learned a lot from each other`s experiences through various group exercises and case studies, which helped us learn best practices in leadership all over the world.

Participants from Takrra Qabailee Khwenday (TQK), a forum that raises the voices of tribal women, plans to hold trainings that will educate their constituents on their rights and provide them skills to advocate for a more equal society. Over eight months, they plan to engage with 170 women from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas. The project will also address issues of conflict and forced migration that many women in the region have experienced. WLP manuals and methodology will be used as a foundation for the trainings along with materials and context-specific case studies developed by TQK.
