Destination America is a four-part documentary series produced by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting about what has driven men and women from all over the world to immigrate to America for centuries — economic opportunity, religious freedom and artistic expression. Breaking Free: A Woman's Journey, is the fourth and final episode in the series, and focuses on the particular social and political forces that drive women's emigration to America. Women's Learning Partnership (WLP) founder Mahnaz Afkhami of Iran and her sister, Farah Ebrahimi, speak about their education in America, activism in Iran, and their eventual exile from their home country. It also tells the stories of women fleeing domestic violence in Guatemala, and the story of a woman who fled Italy and her abusive husband in 1887.
