Marcela Suazo serves as the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative for Malaysia and as the Country Director for UNFPA Thailand. Prior to her appointment, Suazo served as Global Director for South South Cooperation at UNFPA for two years, and as Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean for eight years. During her tenure with UNFPA, Suazo has held senior level management and policy making leadership positions with significant achievements in expanding the work of the UNFPA in the Latin America and Caribbean region to include sexual and reproductive health of youth and adolescents as well as the development and approval of UNFPA’s South-South Cooperation cooperate strategy. Suazo has worked extensively in the government of Honduras as a Member of Cabinet, Minister of Women’s Affairs, and Minister for Family and Children. Suazo holds an MS.Ed from the University of Longwood.
