Summary

The Iranian Family Protection Law of 1975 built upon the Family Protection Law of 1967 which abolished extrajudicial divorce and established Family Courts. The 1975 law strongly restricted polygamy by requiring a husband to require both the consent of his first wife and of the courts before taking a second wife.

This law was repealed following the 1979 revolution.
